Connect your assistant

Assistant guide.

Any AI assistant that supports MCP can work with your boat in LazyJack: you give it one address, sign in to LazyJack once, and approve what it may do.

What you need.

Addresshttps://app.lazyjack.app/api/v1/mcp
Sign-inYour LazyJack email and password, typed on LazyJack's own page by the boat's owner. The assistant never sees them.
AssistantOne that can add a custom (remote) MCP connector. In ChatGPT and Claude this depends on your plan and, in a company workspace, on what the admin allows.
BoatA boat set up in LazyJack. An account with no boat cannot be connected.

Every assistant goes through the same three steps: add the address, approve on LazyJack's sign-in page, then switch the connector on in a chat. Only the first step differs.

ChatGPT.

ChatGPT adds a custom MCP server only in Developer mode, which needs a paid plan; a workspace admin may have to allow it. OpenAI moves these menus from time to time, so the names on your screen may differ slightly.

  1. Open Settings and turn on Developer mode (under Security and login, or in older versions under Apps & Connectors, Advanced settings).
  2. In Settings, open the list of apps or connectors and choose Create.
  3. Name: LazyJack. MCP server URL: https://app.lazyjack.app/api/v1/mcp. Authentication: OAuth. Leave any client ID and secret fields empty: ChatGPT registers itself with LazyJack.
  4. Save, then choose Connect. LazyJack's sign-in page opens: sign in, check the permissions and approve.
  5. In a new chat, open the composer's tools or Developer mode menu and switch LazyJack on.

In LazyJack's Settings the connection is marked "Not verified". That is expected: it only says LazyJack cannot vouch for the name an app gives itself. See OpenAI: Developer mode.

Claude (claude.ai, desktop and mobile).

A connector added on claude.ai also works in the Claude desktop and mobile apps. Every plan can add one; the Free plan one only.

  1. Open the connector settings. Free, Pro or Max: Customize, Connectors, Add custom connector. Team or Enterprise: an owner adds it under Organization settings, Connectors, Add, Custom, then each member connects it.
  2. Name: LazyJack. URL: https://app.lazyjack.app/api/v1/mcp.
  3. Under OAuth client, choose Register automatically. The suggested "Use Claude's published identity" does not work with LazyJack yet.
  4. Under Authentication, choose Sign in now, then Add. LazyJack's sign-in page opens: sign in and approve.
  5. In a chat, choose +, then Connectors, and switch LazyJack on.

See Anthropic: add a custom connector.

Coding tools: Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code.

Desktop and command-line tools sign in the same way: LazyJack's page opens in your browser and returns to the tool on your own computer.

Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http --scope user lazyjack https://app.lazyjack.app/api/v1/mcp

--scope user makes it available in every project. Then run /mcp in Claude Code, pick lazyjack and choose Authenticate. See Claude Code: MCP.

Cursor, in ~/.cursor/mcp.json:

{ "mcpServers": { "lazyjack": { "url": "https://app.lazyjack.app/api/v1/mcp" } } }

VS Code, in .vscode/mcp.json or through the MCP: Add Server command:

{ "servers": { "lazyjack": { "type": "http", "url": "https://app.lazyjack.app/api/v1/mcp" } } }

Both ask you to sign in the first time a LazyJack tool is used. If your version expects a different format, its MCP documentation has it; the address is all LazyJack needs.

For the technically minded: any other client needs the address, Streamable HTTP and OAuth with dynamic client registration. A tool that only takes a fixed token can use one made in LazyJack under Settings, Connected access, sent as Authorization: Bearer <token>. That token does not expire, so revoke it when you stop using it.

Nothing is connected until you approve on LazyJack's own page, signed in with your LazyJack email and password.

That page calls the assistant a "companion".

What an assistant can and cannot do.

An assistant works on your boat with the permissions you approved, and every change it makes appears in the activity list, like your own changes. The list does not yet say which changes were the assistant's.

Can, with read and writeOnly with extra permission, and your approval each timeNever
Read and update the boat's details, equipment, engine hours, jobs and problems, trips and the log, documents and files, parts and the shopping list, checklists, people, places, projects and costs Archive, restore or remove anything. Without that permission it is refused. With it, the request waits under Settings, Pending requests for 15 minutes; approve it, then ask the assistant to try again Export or restore a backup, clear the boat's data, delete your account, see or change other connections, approve its own requests

Good first requests: "What should I do first on the boat?", "Log today's sail, engine 2.5 hours", "Add an impeller to the shopping list".

Manage and troubleshoot.

Every connection is listed in LazyJack under Settings, Connected access, with its permissions, when it was connected and last used, and a Revoke button that stops it at once. An assistant that signs in gets the permissions it asks for, normally reading and updating. For a read-only connection, make a token there with "Allow create and update" unticked. A sign-in stays valid for 90 days of use unless you revoke it.
