LazyJack user guide

LazyJack is a record for one sailboat, kept by its owner: the boat and its equipment, engine hours, the work to do and the work done, trips and the logbook, documents, the spares and consumables on board, projects and money. It works offline and syncs when it can. An AI assistant that supports MCP (Model Context Protocol) can read and change the same record, with the access you give it.

This guide explains the thinking behind the app and the workflows it supports. It does not describe every screen: the screens describe themselves, and they change more often than the ideas behind them.

Chapters

  1. I want to…: common things to get done, each with the way through the app and the one ask that gets an assistant to do it with you.
  2. How LazyJack thinks: the five areas, one word per thing, statuses as actions, Archive and Delete, offline and sync, one currency, and what Today does and does not claim.
  3. Assistants: connecting an AI assistant, what it may do, approvals, the ready-made requests, good asks, and the rules an assistant should follow.
  4. Setting up the boat and engine: the first run, Boat details and its papers, adding equipment, and how engine hours are read, checked and corrected.
  5. A trip: before, during and after: planning, Prepare, starting, logging as you go, positions and places, ending or logging a trip afterwards.
  6. Work: plans, jobs and problems: the exact rules behind Do first, Soon and Later, plans and their schedules, Did the job, and problems.
  7. Inventory and To buy: items and locations, recording stock, why counting matters, the shopping list, orders and kits.
  8. Budget and projects: expenses and how they repeat, projects and their money, and how By month forecasts from what is still unpaid.
  9. Documents and papers: what a document is, attaching, the boat's papers, Open, files and sync, and checklists.
  10. Backup, restore and moving devices: Download a copy, Restore, what a clear or restore does to other devices, and the three permanent actions.
  11. Troubleshooting sync: the sync badge, Sync problems, the common refusals and what to do, files waiting, offline.

Every chapter after How LazyJack thinks and Assistants ends with a short section for an assistant connected over MCP, stating the rules for that chapter's ground.

Each chapter is also served as plain Markdown at the same address with .md in place of .html, and https://lazyjack.app/llms.txt lists them. The chapters use the app's own words; a glossary in How LazyJack thinks maps each word to the name the data and the MCP tools use. The Assistants chapter ends with the rules an assistant connected to LazyJack is expected to follow.
