Under power

Every hour on the engines, counted.

On a motorboat the engine hours drive most of the service: the oil, the fuel filters, the impellers. LazyJack keeps each engine's hours and the jobs they bring, from the run to the island and back to laying up for the winter.

What it does for a motorboat

The hours decide, so the hours are kept.

Service by engine hours

Give the oil and filter a schedule of every 100 engine hours or every year, and the job is due at whichever comes first. Record the hours after a trip, and the job comes up on Today once the engine is within 10 hours of it.

Two engines, two sets of hours

Set up both engines in the first run, each with its own meter, readings and plans. End a trip and it asks the hours of each engine, and each engine's jobs fall due by its own hours.

Diesel, petrol or outboard, and the generator

A diesel or petrol inboard, a sterndrive or an outboard as the main engine: each comes with its usual services, spark plugs for petrol, an outboard service for the outboard. The generator keeps its own hours, and the bow or stern thruster, the trim tabs and the bilge pumps have their own plans.

Fuel, impellers and the winter

The fuel filters, the fuel system, the tank and the raw-water impeller on each inboard engine and on the generator each have a plan. The filter and impeller jobs can bring their parts into Inventory, so To buy knows what to get. Laying up can be a plan that comes round every autumn, with your own checklist to run through.

Your assistant

Tell it the hours, and it does the rest.

Connect an AI assistant that supports MCP, and it reads and writes the same record, with only the access you gave it. Read the hours off the gauges when you tie up, tell it, and the trip and both readings are recorded. It never says the boat is ready to go: it tells you what the record shows.

An example conversation

Back from the island. Out at nine, in at four. Port engine 846, starboard 842.

Logged today's trip from Oyster Bay to Gull Island and back, and recorded 846 h on the port engine and 842 h on the starboard. The oil and filter on the port engine is due at 850 engine hours.

What do I need to buy for that?

An engine oil filter. One is aboard, in the engine room locker, so there is nothing to buy.

Setting it up

Start with the engines, then add the rest.

The first run sets up the boat and its engines, diesel, petrol or outboard, one or two, with their usual services in three short steps. Add the generator, the thruster and the rest from Equipment afterwards, set up engine hours on the generator, and take the plans LazyJack suggests for each.
